Jonny Raxón
GRADUATES
Jonny Raxón was 13 when he first joined Fotokids. He grew up in a neighborhood controlled by gangs, and life was tough. Friendships often came with the risk of being pulled into crime, but discovering Fotokids gave him a new vision of the world beyond. His mom, a single mother, worked in a sewing co-op to support them. Opportunities were scarce, but Jonny had something special—drive and a big heart.
At Fotokids, he found a safe space where he could express himself and start dreaming bigger. Through the program, he gained access to possibilities far from the dangers of his environment. He picked up a camera, explored creative skills, and realized he was capable of much more than he had imagined. One of the most valuable lessons was learning computing and design—knowledge not taught in his school but which gave him a real advantage later in life.
With Fotokids’ support, Jonny was able to continue his studies, as the program helped cover tuition and transportation. He believes this assistance changed the course of his life: without it, he might not have finished school and, as he puts it, “maybe I’d be in jail.”
After graduating, Jonny started as an accountant at a fumigation company. He worked diligently, stayed humble, and little by little advanced in his career. Along the way, he even helped neighbors from his community secure jobs, many of whom are now thriving. Today, he’s not just employed—he is the Central America Supervisor for the entire company. He continues to stand out by mentoring younger colleagues, sharing the skills he once learned, and reminding them of the importance of their work in protecting people’s health.
And for him, it all began with Fotokids.
