German Gómez
GRADUATES
German was just 11 years old when he joined Fotokids. He grew up in Tierra Nueva, a violent and dangerous neighborhood in Guatemala City. His house was built on a narrow alley, and his single mother, with four children, covered it with a tin roof to make it their home.
German has always been an excellent student. After being awarded a five-year full university scholarship, he graduated with a degree in journalism. He is working part-time at a newspaper and is applying for graduate school in Navarre, Spain, to complete a master’s in governance of private and public organizations.
German’s work reflects a commitment to using journalism and communication as tools for positive change. Through his reporting and academic work, he highlights issues that matter to Guatemalan society and participates in spaces where young voices are often missing. His journey shows how the skills and confidence he gained at Fotokids translate into leadership, informed dialogue, and a drive to strengthen his community.
For German, Fotokids was much more than training—it gave him both the tools and the confidence to pursue his education.
