A Latin American Studies major at Smith College, she went to Guatemala in 1965 in search of a Latin American experience and ended up living there for almost 40 years.

She co-founded/directed a secretarial school, translated for government & NGOs, was a liaison between IGA (the Guatemalan American Institute) and the US Embassy, interpreted for foreign visitors, and facilitated workshops. She met Nancy early on and her Fotokids claim to fame is her attendance at the first photo exhibit in the old post office and a first edition copy of Out of the Dump – signed by: Miriam, Evelyn, Marta, Edgar, Rosario, and Nancy! After stints in the Peace Corps and Doctors without Borders, she retired to Bainbridge Island, Washington, where she loves spending time with her two grandchildren (in Olympia), traveling with friends, and daily walks with her dog.
