That’s the question our beginner students explored on a recent photo walk.
They got low to practice noticing how the world changes from a different point of view.
The older students have been learning digital illustration 💻🎨
They used Illustrator’s drawing and color tools—taking inspiration from local fruits and flowers 🌺🥭

Recreate a famous photo—but make it their own, using symbols from Santiago Atitlán.
They reinterpreted the image, adding meaning through traditional clothing, objects, and places.

Portrait practice day in the classroom 📸
Our beginner students practiced taking portraits—choosing backgrounds, arranging props from home, and stepping into the roles of both photographer and model.

Before they jumped into digital illustration, our advanced students went back to basics—pencils, paper, and studying how light touches every surface. Now, they’re creating illustrations using gradients.

You’d never guess these photos were taken in class 📸 Our students are practicing with DSLR cameras
The teachers come up with creative ways to practice and the kids use whatever’s around to get the shot.
You’ll see them all over the streets in Guatemala—selling food from baskets, traditional handicrafts, or groceries from the back of a bicycle.
Our students were asked to photograph local street sellers, not just to make a composition, but to start a conversation. They practiced speaking with strangers and turning everyday scenes into photographs 📸

They helped each other and got more confident taking photos on the street- Always fun to see what catches their eye.

For some, it was their first time in an art gallery. They had the chance to see new ideas- and find fresh inspiration for their photography and design work.

For some, it was their first time in an art gallery. They had the chance to see new ideas—and find fresh inspiration for their photography and design work.
Our students explored the work of famous artists and inventors 🎨💡
Each one selected a figure as inspiration and created a prototype reflecting that person’s impact. By studying great minds from the past, they found new ways to express their own ideas.
In Santiago Atitlán, many mothers work with beads and thread—crafting by hand, often from home.
Our beginner students captured that work through portraits of their mothers on the job 📸
